Changing Seasons, Growing Needs

As temperatures drop and winter approaches, many of our neighbors face the difficult reality of living outdoors without adequate protection from the elements. Cold nights, heavy rain, and freezing temperatures present serious challenges for those without a safe, warm place to sleep. For many, simply staying dry and warm becomes a daily struggle.

At the Upper Room Dining Hall, our care for our guests extends beyond the hot meals we serve each evening. We understand that while our dining hall provides a warm, welcoming place to gather, many of our guests must return to tents, vehicles, or makeshift shelters at the end of the night. We do our best to provide practical necessities that help make these difficult circumstances a little more manageable.

As we prepare for the colder months, our need for tents, waterproof tarps, sleeping bags, hand warmers, warm socks, and gloves continues to grow. These seemingly simple items can make a significant difference. A waterproof tarp can provide protection from rain, dry socks can help prevent cold-related foot problems, and a warm sleeping bag can offer much-needed insulation during freezing nights.

When clothing becomes soaked, temperatures drop, and there is nowhere to escape the weather, even the most basic necessities become critical.

A tent, a dry sleeping bag, or a pair of warm socks can make a tremendous difference to someone facing another cold night outdoors.

Our need for these essential supplies is ongoing, and we welcome both donated items and financial contributions. Monetary donations allow us to purchase supplies where the need is greatest, helping us respond quickly and provide warmth, protection, and relief to our most vulnerable neighbors.

Making Room at the Holiday Table

As Thanksgiving and Christmas approach, preparations are underway at the Upper Room Dining Hall to make these holidays especially meaningful for our guests. Each year, we prepare and serve traditional holiday dinners, complete with all the familiar favorites, lovingly made from scratch.

From the turkey and all the trimmings to the homemade side dishes and desserts, we want our guests to enjoy the same comforting holiday meal many of us look forward to sharing with our own families.

But these gatherings are about much more than the food. For many of our guests, the Upper Room is their holiday gathering place, and for some, the people sitting around our tables are the closest thing they have to family.

The holidays can be an especially lonely time for those who are separated from loved ones, have experienced loss, or simply have nowhere else to go. Here, they are welcomed with familiar faces, friendly conversations, and the comfort of knowing they have a place where they belong.

A Community That Makes It Possible

Behind every holiday meal is a community that shows up in a big way. From donated turkeys and fresh ingredients to the many hands that prepare, cook, and serve, it takes an extraordinary team effort to bring these holiday dinners to the table. Feeding hundreds of our neighbors a traditional, homemade holiday meal is no small feat, but year after year, our community rises to the occasion.

It's this remarkable generosity and willingness to pitch in that turns an enormous undertaking into something truly special.

December 1,2026

Giving Tuesday, is a worldwide movement built around one simple idea: the power of generosity. Following the busy shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday shifts the focus from spending to giving back.

It brings together individuals, families, businesses, and communities to support the causes that matter most to them. What began as a simple idea has grown into a global tradition, reminding us that even small acts of generosity can have an extraordinary impact.

For the Upper Room Dining Hall, Giving Tuesday has become an important opportunity to bring our community together in support of the work we do every single day. The generosity inspired by this day helps sustain far more than a single meal. It supports our ability to serve fresh, nutritious dinners 365 days a year, reach isolated communities through our Mobile Meal Program, and provide essential services to those facing difficult circumstances.

The impact of Giving Tuesday doesn't end when the day is over. Its value is felt throughout the year, in the meals we prepare, the people we reach, and the welcoming place we continue to provide for anyone who needs us.

Give locally. Make a difference daily.

Building a Stronger Community Table

We continue to seek local businesses and individuals willing to become regular sponsors of our Community Table program. Every donation, whether one-time or recurring, makes a meaningful difference. However, monthly and quarterly commitments provide something especially valuable—stability and predictability.

Knowing we can count on consistent support allows us to plan ahead, purchase fresh ingredients with greater confidence, and better manage the ongoing costs of preparing nutritious meals every day.

For $360, a sponsor can provide an entire evening's dinner for approximately 150 neighbors in need. Whether it's a single evening or an ongoing commitment, every sponsorship helps keep our tables full. And with reliable support, we can plan for tomorrow while continuing to meet the needs of today.
