As an individual, family, group or organization, volunteers assist in food preparation and table service to our community of guests, each receiving a hot, nutritious meal that has been prepared in compliance with current food industry standards and State of California laws.

Volunteer Training and Background Checks
Live Scan Fingerprinting
To ensure that the organization maintains a safe and productive work environment that is free of any form of violence, harassment or misconduct, it is the policy of Upper Room Dining Hall to perform a DOJ back-ground check (finger printing) for all staff and regular volunteers (10 or more hours per year).
To complete this requirement, Click on the link below, print and fill out the Live Scan Form and call one of the Live Scan locations listed below to make appointment.
Upon completion of the Live Scan, the DOJ will automatically notify the diocesan Safe Environment Coordinator of the results. Any criminal background information obtained via Live Scan is kept strictly confidential.

Safe Environment Training
All volunteers serving 10 or more hours per year are required to complete the Safe Environment Training Presentation. This is an online presentation outlining a safe environment for children. Click on the link below to create your account and view the presentation. *The Safe Environment Certification must be renewed every three years*

When you have completed the course, download and print your certificate of completion and give (or email) to either the Volunteer Coordinator or the Executive Director.
FoodSafe Food Handlers Certificate
All crew leads, both Cooking and serving, are required to have a Food Handlers Certificate.
When you have completed the course, download and print your certificate of completion and give (or email) to either the Volunteer Coordinator or the Executive Director. There is a $15 charge for this course. Upper Room will reimburse you for this expense if requested upon completion.
